Adding laser-fine detail to your model railway

DRB Workshops provides laser-cutting services to Australian manufacturers of kits for modellers of all kinds – railway, military, car racing, tramways, architecture – your imagination is the limit!

Laser-cutting brings the accuracy of the prototype to any model. From one-offs to large batches, we can cut many materials including acrylic, cardboard and plywood up to 5 millimetres thick. If you provide the artwork in the correct format, the set-up costs can be very low compared to other forms of kit manufacture, making small runs or experiments cost-effective.

Red Telephone Box Kits (O)

The iconic Australian red telephone box is now available in 1:43.5. There are two versions available. Details of the kits and their prototypes are contained in their instruction sheets, which you can download as PDFs for both:

  • Tasman Flag, first built in the mid-1930s, shown above.
  • Tasman Flag Vented, which addressed its predecessor's issues of durability and ventilation, commencing production in the 1950s.

Along with their dome-topped siblings, the Tasman Flag versions were a common and much-loved feature of the Australian landscape from cities to the outback until they finally disappeared in the 1980s.

Each kit is priced at $25.00 + $5.00 postage and handling per order.

Upcoming releases

HO and N scale versions of these Tasman Flag kits, plus other types of red telephone box, are currently in the planning stages.

Passenger Coach Inserts (HO)

These acrylic inserts give a more authentic appearance to HO passenger coaches by providing interior silhouettes that are easily visible on the prototype.

Details of the kits and their prototypes are contained in their instruction sheets, which you can download as PDFs for the following models:

Each kit is priced at $25.00 + $5.00 postage and handling per order.

Fettlers' Sheds – Doors Open (N)

These sheds are located all over NSW to store track maintenance equipment and materials. These sheds often have a lot of clutter around them including large drums filled with dog spikes, etc.

These kits are constructed from fine plywood with detailed interior framework so the doors can be left open, providing an opportunity for rail-related human activity on your layout as the fettlers go about their duties.

The Small Shed kit has a storage area for a drum mounted on a stand in the poison store, the tool shed compartment has a bench and a tool rack while the third area is for the storage of a fettler's trike.

The Large Shed kit has a fourth area for the storage of second fettlers' trike.

Read a review of these sheds by Graeme Goodsell in the NSW N-scale Newsletter

Each kit is priced at $25.00 + $5.00 postage and handling per order.
